Jim Hayes is a self-described "techie entrepreneur" who, along with his wife and business partner, Karen, started one of the world's first fiber optic test equipment companies, Fotec, in 1981. Fotec was acquired in 2001 by Fluke Networks and we left in 2002.

Jim Hayes has also been training cabling installation technicians since 1982 through an organization we called Cable University.

The Fotec and Cable U websites Hayes created were the most popular websites in communications cabling.

Mr. Hayes the President of The Fiber Optic Association and runs VDV Works LLC, a company that provides tech support to the VDV (voice-data-video) industry.

Mr. Hayes also has two books in print and writes articles and columns on cabling for many publications and serve as a contributing editor to Electrical Contractor and TED magazines. He's a frequent speaker at seminars and conventions, and has his own web column IMHO.

Jim Hayes is the co-founder and President of The Fiber Optic Association and serves on the boards of other organizations.
